While Prophecies is my least fav of the three, there was a certain magic about those first days in Pre-Sear that can't be matched. It might be that I was new to the game - everything is new, there's professions to try out (and all the face options, I couldn't stop mixing and matching trying to get THE perfect look), different secondaries, and beautiful scenery. It was awesome. Elinora was my first character, and I remember very clearly some of the places I ran around to, my excitement every time I found a new area, taking tons of screenshots of Eli without knowing how to take them without the interface (whoops). I didn't worry about getting money, I didn't worry about getting cooler looking armor or ubercool items, ect. Although I did have to remake Eli once because I made her N/W and many people started warning me the combo would suck. I went with N/Me instead and play it to this day. I explorered every nook and cranny I could find, delighting in each new cool area. Nothing really has been the same as just dropping into this cool new place with beautiful visuals, and just showing everyone I know: "Look! See my necro?!?" It was all so lighthearted and mellow, and everyone seemed really nice.

I've tried to go back and do Pre-Sear again, but then I get to thinking what I'd have in store for me after Pre-Sear, and I cringe. Perhaps the real solution would be to make a Pre-Sear char that just stays there forever.

I don't miss pre searing, I have a char slot dedicated that as well :P

What I do miss though is how populated Tyria was in general, now it is only droknars forge or Lions Arch that get any people within them. I remember at 2am you could have found multiple groups forming Sanctum Cay missions, now its simply 1-2 afk people. I guess bigger guilds will profit from PvE now.

There was also a time… I think…so long ago… when you didn’t even buy keys. The chest opened like that one in FoW, randomly dropping things for random people. Did I dream that up? I was not keen on the keys idea at first, but when someone—a random person in a PUG *our first time exploring Perdition Rock—told us about the chest “testing,” we were like “Wow!”

Kind of miss the excitement of getting (read: fighting and missioning, not running) to a city for the very first time. The legendary Droknar’s Forge!! Omg what a day that was.

I miss my husband playing GW with me, before he defected to WoW… *sniffle*

So so so many improvements over the two years, thanks to ANet. There’s so much I will not miss too. (Refund points were the WORST!!)

*random people in a PUG are very rare these days... the upside and downside to a great guild

It is Ayu, good eye.

The only thing out of the entire game that I actually miss is 8v8 HA. Come on, Anet, get your act together, this is such an easy decision.

Oh wow...I miss a LOT of things *gets teary eyed*

First off I miss the days were I was a newbie. Were I had no specific goal while playing, Just running around and killing stuff, taking millions of screenies in Wizards Folly. I had no idea that I should focus on just 2-3 attributes (I had at least one point in each for my primary and secondary class), But at the time, that was just ok. I miss the days I didn't follow any builds. I used whatever skills I thought were useful. I used a pretty storm artifact I found along with my truncheon on my N/E. The storm artifact was pointless. But i liked how it looked.

Secondly I miss the days were I didn't want to clean out my inventory. I wanted to keep each and every pretty thing i got, Only if i had two of something would I sell one of them. I miss feeling on top of the world when a yellow dye dropped, now i just pick it up and say 'meh, its not black'. I miss just going with the flow, doing every quest because i thought it was important that I did them all. Now i skip a lot of them to progress and get to an elite skill i need or to an armor location.

But, what I miss the absolute most, Is the days where i thought 1k was a lot! I remember being in town and complimenting another necro on her armor, we got to talking and she gave me 2k, I thought she was the nicest person in the world and that I was now rich! I also miss buying a new type of armor at every location that had it. For my necro i had bonelace from ascalon, I then got fanatics at yaks bend, Then necrotic at LA, and tormentors from Henge of denravi. Now, I don't buy any armor after starters until i can get at least a max set, Sometimes i even wait until i can get to the 15k town (if it isn't to far off.)

I miss the days were opening a chest was free, No keys needed. I loved chest hunting and picking up every single item that dropped because I thought it was a good way to make money.

I had to include this screenie as well. Thats what i mean by not caring about your build or your skills or their attribute. Just having fun with it. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...eyes/gw001.jpg

edit: oh yeah and the days before i knew how to shift+prt screen.

I miss the days when I was working to get my first 15k set of armor, 15k studded leather for ranger (only bought one other set of ranger armor since then, fow). And buying all the steel I needed only to realize I needed Deldrimor Steel the next day. I miss selling items that I had no idea their worts, perfect r8 fellblade for 10k so I could finish my 15k armor.
-Spending ages to find a good max damage bow
-Sorrow's Furnace questing for the fun of it
-Making my second charatcer, who just had her birthday yesterday (took 5 months to make a second char, its my monk)
-Getting my first set of fissure armor 3days after making my monk, for my monk

-Moslty some of the people I played with, and my first guild I made

EDIT: Oh yeah, non-inscriptible items

LOL you sound just like me! I had my points ALL over! My monk had a ranger secondary and a huge cat and ran around with a bow, and I got out of pre-Sear and a friend said "Yeah monks with bows are kind of... well weird, and you don't usually see it... uh... let me find you something better..."

Let's see, I got Bonelace in Ascalon, Tormentor's somewhere along the line (I can't remember if it was Henge or LA), and then a Necrotic/Fanatics mix at Drok's (I eventually settled on Necrotic leggings and top, Bloodstained boots, and Fanatics sleeves, eventually dyed green to match hair, and I still have the set to this day).

My husband STILL has that "doesn't care about the build" mentality, and I try to shield him from it where I can. I know eventually he's going to hit a group that's going to be like "Uh.. you just cast Firestorm so now the enemies are running from your minions" (he's E/N), but he's having a killer good time. I still really don't care about my builds a lot of the time, but I'm concious of what I set up when I'm PUGing (and for the record, I had a freakin' awesome PUG last night for Gate of Madness, who pulled through with masters despite a lot of AFK action and at one point having quite a few of us dead).

I didn't really think about how nostolgic all that was until I got to thinking about it. Don't get me wrong, I'm still having loads of fun, but life was much easier when I wasn't obsessed with what armor to buy my Mesmer because I have a lot of gold and I feel compelled to spend. :P (... and I still can't decide what armor to get her...)

I know what you mean. Like two or three days ago I was on my ranger doing the gates of madness, and the leader of the party wanted everyone to ping there skill bar. Im so self-conscious because I don't follow a build on her whatsoever. I have rebirth, Charm animal, barrage and a few other Interrupt skills - but I made it all myself. And im waiting for the day that I do that, when im not following a build and someone calls me a 'noob' and I go crazy mad. I'm not a noob, I just like to play with builds - I read them to get ideas, But i rarely follow them straight (only when its a farming build).

Your husband sounds like my boyfriend He started playing about 5 or 6 months after me, and at that point I had knowledge. He made a R/Me and had all these illusion skills mixed in with weird ranger skills. And then shortly after I think he had an elementalist and went crazy with fire storm. I never could say anything though because I thought it was so cute, and it reminded me of the good old days

I missed the good old days were people actually play the game rather than whining on forums. Oh snap! I sound like one of them gotta go back to the game.

I miss running people down the droks run....it took me awhile to learn the run, and everytime I would just get it down nicely....new nerf. This last one was the real ticker though, but I'm working on it ONCE AGAIN. The first time I got run down to the Forge, being fairly new at the game, I was like "I've got to learn this!!" and I did. Fun times--and not really even for the $, I just enjoy running alot. (and I did finish all of the game.

When I first got the Original Guild Wars (ages ago) I thought Pre Searing WAS the whole game. I got frustrated since I didn't play with anyone, and got stuck at like level 12. I even tried other classes, but I ended up taking a break for a LONG time. My friends picked up Guild Wars Factions, and got me back into the game, and they told me about the REST of Prophecies. XD I had 3 minis in Pre Searing .

Oh and about what I miss... I think it would be doing quests with people. And my friends list being full of people, and my Guildmates [last sign on is like 5 months ]
Also back when a friend gave me a (non-max) FDS. It was so cool holding the same sword as Prince Rurik, and I had a blast showing it off (since most everyone in Ascalon were pretty nooby then). Ahh ignorance truly is bliss.

Killing a Level 0 Bog Scale - Basically everything being new.

Now that everyone is a 'pro', there is no more niceness.

I miss Prophecies feeling difficult. I think that's because it was designed for people experimenting with builds and in the beginning that's what they were doing. In the next chapters you need the whole team to be as efficient as possible in the early stages of 'max armor' gameplay, and the games feel like grind. I like lots of easy PvE, sprinkled with hard elite areas/missions.

I also miss the feeling you get entering unique areas like Mineral Springs, as opposed to entering some other dried up wasteland.

Actually this is probably the biggest thing I miss, the ignorance we all once had about the game

Absolutely. I don't think I've ever used anyone else's build, whether posted here or elsewhere...maybe that's why I'm still having fun!
